Edit Office enters today’s contract interiors market from a position of real strength. Established more than 17 years ago, the business has grown into Ireland’s leading trade-only office furniture wholesaler, built on a clear and disciplined approach: supporting its dealer network, protecting that channel and delivering reliable, design-led workplace solutions at competitive price points.

That approach has resulted in a loyal customer base of around 50 to 60 dealers across the island of Ireland, spanning both the Republic and Northern Ireland. In a market where relationships remain central to project delivery, that consistency has proved valuable. Edit Office has maintained its trade-only model throughout, reinforcing trust within its network at a time when some competitors have shifted towards more direct routes to market.

Today, the business continues to invest heavily in both infrastructure and capability. Operating from two warehouse facilities in Greenogue Business Park, Dublin, Edit Office now stocks more than €500,000 worth of PET raw material across 56 colours, allowing the company to respond quickly to project requirements and bespoke applications.

Alongside its continued growth in furniture supply, Edit Office is also developing a specialist position within workplace acoustics – an area that is becoming increasingly important as office environments evolve.

A market placing greater emphasis on performance

The timing of Edit Office’s expansion into acoustics reflects wider changes in the workplace. Dublin’s office market is showing signs of renewed activity, while occupier expectations continue to evolve. Hybrid working, open-plan layouts and more flexible environments are placing greater emphasis on comfort, concentration and overall user experience.

Within that context, acoustics has become a more critical consideration. What was once treated as a finishing touch is now increasingly viewed as a core component of workplace performance, influencing productivity, wellbeing and the usability of space.

Developing a focused acoustics offer

Recognising this shift, Edit Office has established a dedicated acoustics division, led by Stephen Pierce. Pierce joined the business to develop the offer, bringing extensive experience of working with architects, designers and contractors on specification-led projects.

“The reason I was brought in was to make sure we’re ahead of the curve. Acoustics has grown massively over the last ten years, and we wanted to build a division that could support our customers properly – not just by supplying products, but by giving them the understanding and confidence to use them correctly. It’s about bringing a level of professionalism and technical knowledge that supports everything we do.”

The division is centred around PET, a material widely used in acoustic applications and typically made from a high proportion of recycled content. Its flexibility allows it to be applied across a wide range of products, including wall panels, desk screens, freestanding dividers and more integrated interior elements.

For designers and clients alike, the appeal lies in its ability to deliver acoustic performance while also contributing to the visual and material language of a space.

The offer has also expanded significantly in recent months. Alongside its established acoustic panel systems, Edit Office now provides acoustic lighting solutions and a growing range of acoustic pods. In addition to the established Hush and Zeno collections, the company is introducing Ciúnas – a new range of high-quality but cost-effective acoustic pods designed to meet increasing demand for flexible, privacy-focused workplace environments.

Additional warehouse capacity and upgraded production has been added to the existing facilities in Greenogue Business Park, Dublin

Designed for collaboration, focus work and hybrid meeting requirements, the Ciúnas range combines strong acoustic performance with practical workplace functionality. The flagship four-person Ciúnas L Pod, for example, provides a spacious interior suitable for small group meetings and video conferencing, incorporating advanced acoustic materials for sound insulation alongside integrated ventilation, lighting and power connectivity, including USB and USB-C charging. The range has been developed to provide a quieter and more professional workspace environment without compromising on accessibility or value, and is backed by a five-year guarantee.

Acoustic lighting is another area where Edit Office sees growing opportunity. Rather than treating acoustics as a separate intervention, the range integrates sound absorption directly into decorative lighting elements, helping designers address performance requirements in a more subtle and visually cohesive way.

Products such as Louise and Thelma combine sculptural pendant lighting with acoustic functionality, using curved and precision-cut forms to soften sound while creating strong visual features within a space. Elsewhere, products such as Scarlet introduce acoustic performance into linear architectural lighting formats suited to meeting rooms, open-plan offices and hospitality settings, while Sinead brings a softer, more domestic character through fabric-based sound absorption and natural timber detailing. Supporting accessories such as JD further extend the concept, allowing acoustic materials to be integrated directly into pendant lighting systems through interchangeable colours, textures and finishes.

Together, the collection reflects a broader shift within workplace interiors, where acoustic performance is increasingly being integrated into the overall language of furniture, lighting and architectural specification, rather than treated as a standalone technical requirement.

Supporting specification through knowledge

As demand for acoustic solutions increases, so too does the need for clearer guidance around performance and application. While awareness has grown, technical understanding can vary, particularly in the early stages of a project.

“Acoustics isn’t always fully understood, and it can sometimes be overlooked. Designers will often focus on the aesthetics, the colours and the look of a space, which is obviously important, but the performance side can get overlooked. What we’re finding is that we have to work harder to guide them, to educate them in some ways. But we actually see that as a strength. We are the knowledge that our customers need, and we can help take the stress away by making sure the solution not only looks right, but performs properly as well.”

This has led Edit Office to take on a more consultative role, supporting customers through considerations such as performance requirements, compliance and environmental standards, including LEED, BREEAM and REACH where required.

“What we’re really trying to do is make it easy for our customers. There’s a lot of complexity around acoustics – performance, certification, different applications – and that can be a barrier. Our role is to take that stress away, guide them through it and give them confidence that what they’re specifying is the right solution for the space.”

Investing in local manufacturing capability

A key element of the offer is local production, and this is where Edit Office is making some of its most significant investment. At its Dublin facility, the company has developed in-house PET fabrication using advanced CNC cutting technology, enabling both standard and bespoke production.

Alongside its existing Kongsberg cutting system, a second machine has recently been installed, reflecting the level of demand already being seen and the company’s intention to scale further.

The Kongsberg platform itself is well suited to this type of work, offering the versatility required for sample making, short-run production and more specialised cutting applications. For Edit Office, that flexibility is particularly valuable, allowing it to respond quickly to project-specific requirements, whether that involves prototyping, one-off elements or small production runs for bespoke interiors.

This wider programme of investment also includes expanded warehousing, updated showroom environments, breakout spaces and office areas designed to better support both customers and staff.

“Being able to manufacture locally and work closely with customers on the ground is a big advantage for us. It means we can respond quickly, support bespoke requirements and really collaborate with dealers, contractors and joinery companies in a way that’s much harder when everything is coming from further afield.”

The result is a more integrated and responsive operation. Increased cutting capacity, combined with expanded space and improved customer-facing environments, allows Edit Office to support a wider range of project requirements, from standard supply through to more tailored acoustic solutions.

This capability is particularly relevant in the Irish market, where large-scale office furniture manufacturing is relatively limited. While Edit Office continues to serve its core dealer network, it is also increasingly supporting contractors and joinery specialists by supplying cut-to-size PET components and semi-finished elements that can be integrated into wider interior schemes.

Looking ahead to future development

Looking forward, Edit Office is continuing to explore how its acoustic offer can evolve. While PET remains central, there is a growing focus on material innovation, improved sustainability credentials and the integration of acoustic solutions with other elements such as timber.

“PET is such a versatile material – it’s not going anywhere. The opportunity now is how we evolve it, how we improve the recycled content and how we start combining it with other materials like timber to create more integrated, design-led solutions. That’s where we see a lot of potential going forward.”

The broader acoustic market continues to expand as workplaces adapt to new ways of working, with increasing demand for products that support both collaboration and focused activity.

“It’s a fast-moving area, and we want to stay ahead of the game. That means constantly looking at new materials, new ideas and new ways of doing things, so that we’re always bringing something valuable to our customers rather than just following the market.”

With continued investment in manufacturing, warehousing, product development and acoustic expertise, Edit Office is positioning itself as more than a workplace furniture supplier.

As the business expands its offer through solutions such as acoustic lighting, PET fabrication and the new Ciúnas pod range, it is increasingly aligning itself with the evolving needs of the modern workplace.
