Orgatec preview
Focus on relationships, adaptability and the future of environments – spaces
With around six months ahead of its 2026 edition, Orgatec has begun to reveal a reworked format that reflects a broader shift in how the workplace is conceived - not just as a setting for productivity, but as a framework for connection.
Taking place in Cologne from 27th-30th October 2026, the leading international trade fair for workspace and contract solutions will centre on the theme “From rooms to relationships: designing spaces in an ever-changing world.” It’s a direction that feels both timely and necessary.
From an Irish Contract Interiors perspective, this shift towards human experience over pure function mirrors conversations already shaping projects across Ireland and the UK. Clients are increasingly asking not just how a space works, but how it feels - how it supports collaboration, wellbeing and a sense of belonging in a hybrid, fast-changing working culture.
New curated formats bring a more human-centred approach
As exhibitor numbers grow and hall planning progresses, it is the content formats that signal the most meaningful change. Design is being positioned less as a finishing layer and more as a strategic tool - one that can actively influence behaviour and culture. The 2026 edition will highlight environments – spaces that evolve alongside their users.
Central to this is Orgatec Perspectives, a new platform for curated showcases exploring how environments – spaces can respond to contemporary work and contract settings.
In Hall 4.2, CLOSER, curated by Studio Hanne Willmann, takes a multisensory approach, combining architecture, materials, light, sound and scent to foster deeper connection. Its emphasis on experiential design reflects a growing demand for interiors that engage more than just the visual.
For Irish designers and specifiers, this aligns with an increasing appetite for richer, more layered environments – spaces that balance performance with atmosphere, across workplace, hospitality and public sector projects.
Rethinking work through play and participation
In Hall 7, WORK–PLAY by Pearson Lloyd challenges the traditional separation of work and play, reframing play as a driver of creativity. Its adaptable environment encourages movement and participation, pointing towards more dynamic, user-led environments – spaces.
From an Irish viewpoint, this is particularly relevant as organisations look to draw people back into workplaces that support interaction, spontaneity and innovation.
Why Orgatec still matters for Irish industry
For Irish manufacturers, suppliers and fit-out businesses, Orgatec remains a key European platform where the full ecosystem comes together - connecting designers, specifiers and clients.
In a small but outward-looking market, this exposure is critical. It offers opportunities to engage with decision-makers, test products internationally and build relationships that support export growth.
It also provides a clear view of where the industry is heading. As hybrid working, technology integration and experience-led design continue to evolve, Orgatec captures these shifts in a way few other events can.
The introduction of Mix & Match @ Orgatec further reflects how projects are now delivered - through collaboration across materials, lighting, acoustics and technology.
A platform for connection, not just products
Ultimately, Orgatec 2026 is less about individual products and more about how they come together to shape meaningful environments – spaces. From an Irish Contract Interiors standpoint, that shift underlines its relevance - making it a worthwhile destination for Irish businesses looking to stay competitive and future-focused.
