EMP Furniture delivers 96-bed block at University Hospital Limerick
EMP Furniture delivered bespoke, durable healthcare interiors for University Hospital Limerick’s new 96-bed block.
EMP Furniture Ltd recently completed the 96-bed block at University Hospital Limerick, a significant healthcare development designed to enhance patient capacity and improve clinical environments in the region.
Working in close collaboration with all project stakeholders, including main contractor John Sisk & Son and O’Connell Mahon / Kevin Jackson Architects, EMP Furniture played a key role in delivering high-quality, functional and durable interior solutions throughout the facility.
The scope of works encompassed a wide range of bespoke fitted furniture and specialist joinery elements, tailored to meet the demands of a modern healthcare environment.
EMP Furniture’s experienced team was responsible for the manufacture and installation of bedroom and ensuite sanitary ware IPS panels, bedroom fitted furniture including fold-down bed units, clean utility rooms, staff rest areas, ward managers’ offices, and multiple nurse base stations.
Each element was designed and produced with a focus on durability, hygiene, and ease of maintenance – critical requirements within healthcare settings.
Beyond functionality, the project also prioritised the creation of a welcoming and calming environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Feature wall panelling was installed within a central lightwell space, maximising the impact of natural daylight and contributing to a brighter, more uplifting interior. A bespoke “River Seat”, inspired by the nearby River Shannon, provides both a visual focal point and a comfortable communal feature within the space.
The nurse base desks were carefully designed and positioned to act as clear points of orientation, improving wayfinding for visitors while supporting efficient staff workflows.
Specialist healthcare fit-out expertise

EMP Furniture’s team worked closely with design and construction partners throughout, ensuring all elements were delivered in line with programme requirements and technical specifications.
