Farrell invests in solar for a sustainable future
Farrell has announced the successful installation of 673 state-of-the-art solar panels at its manufacturing facility in Ardee, Co. Louth.

Completed across November and December 2024, Farrell's ambitious project represents a significant milestone in Farrell’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency and a cleaner future. The investment in renewable energy marks a key step forward in Farrell’s broader environmental strategy. The new installation will have a meaningful impact, reducing the company’s reliance on grid power by 26%.
With an estimated annual generation of 255,644 MWh of solar energy, it is expected to neutralise 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. To put this into perspective, this is the equivalent of planting 1546 trees annually or offsetting the carbon emissions of a car driving 181,431 kilometres every year.

Farrell is taking proactive steps to integrate greener solutions across all aspects of its operations. This solar installation is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
Just last year, Farrell took an ambitious step by transitioning its entire vehicle fleet to HVO biofuel, an advanced alternative fuel derived from renewable resources such as waste oils and fats. This switch has already resulted in an impressive 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel, significantly reducing the environmental impact of day-to-day operations.
In addition to cutting emissions, these initiatives also represent long-term investments in the resilience and future-readiness of Farrell’s business. By generating its own renewable energy and adopting low-emission transport solutions, Farrell is actively reducing its reliance on an increasingly unpredictable energy market while building a more sustainable foundation for future growth.
